Nørrebro Bryghus - Dronning Louises Hvid Jul

ENG : Queen Louises White Christmas.

Not one I have had the pleasure ? to try before but the bottle caught my eye while in the local supermarket. I have one wish, I wish they would put some of these brews in normal sized bottles, well depending on the beer of course. Seeing it is friday and the weekend I think it's safe to crack this open. Blurb roughly translated below….

Queen Louises White Christmas is a refreshing light relation (wtf ?) to the dark christmas season. A christmas blond brewed for the people that wish an alternative to the dark traditional heavy christmas beer, but pursue a wish to serve a rich beer that has body and character enough to complement the Danish christmas dinner. (serving suggestions followed but sod that, i detest that shit written on beer labels)

Righty ho ho ho, on we go….

Very pungent waft of malt, spice and a little minuscule hint of hops when popping the cork and pouring.

Hvid jul pours clear golden with a frothy white head. Sweet intake with malt, wheat, caramel, a hint of black pepper and herbs while it finishes dry, malty and mildly bitter. In the aftertaste I'm reminded of my youth sucking on a barley sugar, though not as sweet combined with more malt. A light mouthfeel to this without being watery.

Ok, this beer confuses me. Take the bottles label away and I would not guess this was a seasonal brew as it is one that I would have no problem drinking in the height of summer. Very simplistic compared to the usual seasonal brews and not a huge amount going on with it, maybe that is the point ? I do have a gripe, why label this one with a christmas brew label when you have a couple of other christmas brews out already at the same time (julebryg and stjernestund). Stop that shit please, it's milking it too far..unless your name is Thisted Bryghus.

Summing up, I did enjoy this one and as said would have no problem drinking this again if labelled properly. It is worth a try, like the brewdog in the last post if you want a change of pace from the heavily spiced seasonals that are out just now.

This scored a generous 5.5/10 on the ' the north bridge is falling down, falling down' Beerometer.

Brew Cat x 2(Ørbæk) - Golden Ale & IPA

Brewed by Ørbæk who seem to specialize in brewing organic shrug of the shoulder* and forget everyday Danish beer, this time with plagiarism at its worst and brewed for Netto ! That in itself is enough to set the alarm bells ringing. I wonder if the names Brew Hound, Brew Puppy or Brew Mongrel are already taken ?

There is a third bottle, Dark Ale, which I did not pick up as I have tasted it before. So, a brewer known for dull beer and brewed for netto for a set discount price, this can only go wrong, can't it ? Well the cheap quickly put together graphics on the bottle and the blurb 'old english brewing tradition' do not set my hopes up....

Golden Ale

Very weak waft of floral hops on the pour.

Golden ale pours cloudy gold with a white head. Fruity on the sweetish intake with floral hops, a light citrus and malt. Not much going on in the finish apart from some mild bitter hops. Quite a nice sweet aftertaste with coriander and camomile. A thin mouthfeel to this one but not over watery.

This was a lot better than expected although I had thoughts of drainpour to just drinkable before opening so this I guess ends up as mind numbingly average. I can't complain about the price anyway. Easy drinking simple summer like ale that is totally inoffensive. Not one I'd buy again though I would have no problems drinking it again if offered a bottle.

IPA

Not enough aroma off this on the pour to warrant a mention.

IPA pours a hazy yellow with a frothy white head.  Sweet grassy intake with hops and butterscotch with a dry and mild bitter finish.  Quite a dull hoppy aftertaste. Although watery it leaves quite an oily feeling left in the mouth.

I am not sure where the IPA is in this IPA. It is dull and totally lifeless. Our old friend diacetyl makes a come back with this and that buttery taste clings to the roof of my mouth, implants and all.. It is not one I will be buying or drinking again. Summing up, I thought this was bloody awful.

Yet again another shrug of the shoulder brew from Ørbæk. *I did forget that they do brew some decent beer, Fynsk Forår is quite tasty and worth trying.

This scored a generous 2/10 on the 'only because it is as hot as hell today otherwise it would be drainpour' Beerometer.

The Celt Experience x 2 - Bronze & Golden

Quite a strange out of the blue couple of craft beers to find in a local Danish discount supermarket. Maybe dedicated bottle shops have had some of their range before and I have just never noticed ? I have to admit I have never heard of this Welsh brewery before which is not a bad thing and helps to go in with an open mind. They have a website, if like me it is your first encounter with Celt Experience and want to know more.

Bronze

Light waft of caramel, malt and floral hops when pouring.

Bronze pours clear copper with an off-white creamy head. Caramel, malt and spice on the intake while the finish is dry and mildly bitter. Hazelnuts and spice again linger in the mild bitter aftertaste along with floral hops. Bit of a watery mouthfeel to this one.

Very nice looking beer once poured though it did nothing to set my mojo alight, meaning a middle of the road bitter where nothing stands out giving me a wow factor. The blurb on the label says ' an escape to the wild'. What is that all about ? :)

Nothing really wrong with this one but not one I'd buy or try again.

Golden

Big wafts of citrus, hops and pine on the pour from this.

Golden pours clear gold with a medium white head. Wooooft...Bags of citrus and citrus peel along with floral hops on the intake with a mild to medium bitter finish. Bitter grapefruit and orange peel linger in the sharp aftertaste. Good, slightly creamy mouthfeel after getting past the zest.

It says on the bottle 'golden, snappy, citrus' and I go along with that. It also says 'drink to inspire you to an evening of passion'...Ehmmm what ? I guess I should let the wife know she will be getting lucky tonight !

A beer that certainly wakes the palate up a bit with all the zestyness. Not one I would rush out and buy again unless of course I need inspired for an evening of passion. No problem drinking another if offered or if the chance came up to try it on tap.
