Alias of Konrad Svetly Lezak 14.
First Christmas beer of the season…..ok, I lied, I've had a tuborg which is absolute rank and not worth bothering about. So here we have a Czech offering but it is a bit of cheeky name change to suit the local market as it is really the alias above, naughty naughty ! In reality, this is just a strong Czech pils and I don't expect much festive season from it…..
Not much in the aroma department from the pour apart from some malt and caramel.
This pours clear amber gold with a fluffy white head. Sweet burnt caramel prominent on the intake with malt, grass and honey in the background leading to a metallic bitter finish. Caramel and honey linger in the aftertaste. Softly carbonated with a light mouthfeel, not watery.
Excuse my french but I thought this was piss poor for a Christmas beer, but it is an okay or should I say average strong czech pils. A bit too much honey and metallic notes for my liking but you can of course bypass the flavours by chilling the crap out of it and drinking near ice cold. Not the greatest start to my own christmas beer season but I'm sure there is some new for me duffers to try and gems to be found. Summing up, avoid if looking for a christmas beer.

Pivovary Vratislavice - Konrad Tmavy Lezak
The dark brother of Svetly which I have been meaning to blog on this for a while. With an ultimatum delivered from the wife to clear out my beer before a re-stock on friday it seems a good as time as any to get this one out the way. Normally this is one of my beer free days, yep days as in more than one, but if someone insists then it is as good an excuse as any for a beer, eh ?
Light waft of roasted malt and caramel on the pour.
Tmavy Lezak pour a very dark brown/ruby red tinge with an off-white to beige creamy head with good retention and lacing all the way down. A light sweetness on the intake with light roasted malt, caramel, burnt toast and nuts. The finish is dry and mildly bitter. Pepper and burnt toast again in the short aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light and watery though not too watery.
Though a dark lager it is not too far off a vienna, blindfolded I'd probably say it was. Considering the price of this when bought this is actually quite decent and light enough to session on though there is no wow factor. It is what it is, nothing special but a notch up from average for a Czech dunkel with high drinkability. No problems here with buying or drinking another. My only gripe would be the the tad watery mouthfeel.
This scored 4/10 on the 'if I see another german organic this week I'm going to..' Beerometer.

A wee diversion..Bad day at work, well mondays always are so hopefully a good beer to cheer the mood up a bit ?
This dark lager comes in a swing top bottle with an aroma of sweet malt when opened. Pours a deep clear dark ruby red with a two finger tan head. A lot of roasted, medium sweet malt and a bit of coffee on the intake while it finishes dry with a light bitterness.
Not a whole lot going on with this and a bit watery in the body although it is very drinkable. It reached a grumpy 5.5/10 on the beerometer. I think if I was going after a readily available Czech dark lager then I would buy a Kozel Dark which costs a lot less and in my head is a lot better.

Pivovary Vratislavice - Konrad Svetly Lezak
Taking a break from the Scottish beers and back to a beer that has regularly landed in my shopping basket the last couple of weeks, probably due to being on offer which is always a bonus.
Konrad as I will call it is a Czech pilsner... Pours golden with a white head. A lot of light malt, bread, a bit of hay and a mild saaz hop bitterness on the intake leaving a lingering malty sweetness in the aftertaste.
Very tasty pils and way above, to borrow a phrase just this once, poxy McLagers. Excellent pilsner, good value for money and hit 6.5/10 on the beerometer.
