Lagunitas - Censored

Back again and fighting fit. What better way to kick off the weekend and celebrate my wee lads birthday as I have not had a bad one yet from this brewery so expecting good things….

Good cara-malt aroma coming off this from the pour with some hops in the background.

Censored pours clear amber copper with a frothy off-white head. Sweetish intake with malt, caramel, grass and light floral hops ending a tangy bitter finish. Quite a short  light metallic aftertaste with malt again. Softly carbonated and the mouthfeel is light without being watery. The alcohol is well hidden.

Very nice balance between the sweet cara-malts and the light floral hops to cancel out the sweetness. If you like decent malty ales then this is one that is worth trying out. I enjoyed this one although there is no wow factor. It is just a solid malty amber ale.

This scored a generous 7/10 on the 'christmas beer release day free zone' Beerometer.

Lagunitas - Imperial Red Ale

Another day, another empty bottle for the collection. I have not had a bad beer yet from Lagunitas so quite looking forward to this one...

Wafts of malt, hops and some pine from the pour.

Red Ale pours amber red with a frothy off-white head which had good duration.  Sweet malty intake with caramel, pine and hops while the finish is fruity and bitter. Floral hops, malt and caramel linger in the metallic bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is a bit oily though not unpleasant. No alcohol shone through.

Nothing wows me here but it is a good solid ale that was very easy to drink. I did like the malty base to this as it lingered a good while in the mouth in the aftertaste. I should say I do like malty brews anyway but that is just a personal preference. I would have no problems drinking this again although it is not one I would rush out to buy. Summing up, yet another very decent brew from Lagunitas that is well worth a try. Do they make a bad one ? Answers on a postcard please.

This scored a generous 7.5/10 on the ' I'm running out of ideas what to say here now' Beerometer.

Lagunitas - New DogTown Pale Ale

The 'heatwave' continues and my alcohol consumption is right down until I hit the right beer..I just want something light and refreshing, with the emphasis on light. Today I was in the same supermarket that held the American craft beer week a few weeks back and they were practically giving away the rest of the stock so I picked up this and another Lagunitas up for basically the same price as a standard carlsberg after wheeler dealing to buy all their remaining stock, a bit of a bargain in every sense ! :)

After making a total arse of the pour the aroma of peaches, grapefruit, pine, citrus and a touch of caramel hit the nose.

New DogTown Pale Ale pours amber gold with a thick creamy white head that has a long duration. Sweet and light malt on the intake with citrus, pine and hops while the finish is quite hoppy and bitter. Floral hops and a bready malt linger in the aftertaste. This one has a light mouthfeel without being watery.

I played safe on this one and scored even though I probably chilled this one too much. Light, crisp and without sounding like a industrial beer advert, refreshing. Although this is a straight forward pale ale with no surprises it really hit the spot with me. No need to say if I would buy or drink again as I have eight bottles left ! Summing up, a well made and way above average pale ale that I really enjoyed on a hot summer day.

This scored 7.5/10 on the 'need to try this and score again when it is cold and pissing down' Beerometer

Lagunitas - Hop Stoopid

A straight up blog this time with no little fillers. Part three of an American quadruple. At 102 I.B.U I'm expecting this one to be very bitter, let's see ...

Intense wafts of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, malt and big hops on the pour.  Not often I say this about the aromas given off beer as for me as taste is king, but this smells great !

Hop Stoopid pours amber dark gold with a fluffy white head. Pine, grapefruit, caramel malt and very hoppy on the intake while the finish is moderately bitter and sweet. Malty long lasting sweet and dry aftertaste. Despite the strength no alcohol shines through. This has quite a smooth oily mouthfeeel.

I was expecting this one to give me a hop burn right down to the pit of my stomach but that never happened nor would I describe this as a refreshing IPA as it is too full bodied. Absolutely nothing to be undecided about here unlike the Sawtooth Ale in the last post, this is a luscious IPA. It is styled a Double IPA but I'm not snooty enough to get into small details like that so IPA it is. I have no problems whatsoever buying or drinking this again, preferably locked in a room, alone, within my own inner sanctum of tranquility without the distractions of the internets...the botnets are after me, bastards. To borrow a phrase again, buy it and try it.

Everything considered in a serious manner for once, this scored 10/10 on the *insert anyone here* 'Are you going to share this bottle ? '..*me* 'Are you mad ? ' Beerometer.
